WPO Presents THE HEIGHT OF SPRING

There's spring in the air and in the step of Woollahra's outstanding musicians - and virtuoso star turns aplenty when the WPO returns with a spectacular program in September.

Lee Bracegirdle directs the WPO in HEIGHT OF SPRING - a spectacular program that presents Schumann's seasonally appropriate First Symphony,
nicknamed The Spring Symphony and pairs it with Stravinsky's Eight Instrumental Miniatures for 15 Players - a sensational work that features 15 orchestral players in their own right! Both the Ravel and Schumann are very difficult works and present great challenges for the orchestra; Tzigane for example has a famous/notorious harp cadenza in it!

For these two concerts, young virtuoso violinist, Darcy Dauth joins the orchestra to perform two spectacular solo works; the sumptuous Romance by Dvorak and the hypnotic rhapsodising of Ravel's gypsy-inspired fantasy, Tzigane.

Darcy is already an experienced and passionate orchestral and chamber musician,
having been involved in numerous Australian Youth Orchestra and Sydney Youth Orchestra including as concertmaster of the Alexander Orchestra.

Part of the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), he has performed alongside violinists Richard Tognetti and Anthony Marwood as well as in masterclasses with Ray Chen, Sitkovetsky Piano Trio and the Brodsky String Quartet.

Taking the baton is the orchestra's chief conductor and artistic director Lee Bracegirdle
- one of Australia's most eminent international musicians - conductor, composer and teacher.

Now in its 23rd year, the award-winning WPO is going from strength to strength, having just presented two highly-acclaimed and sold-out family concerts, and its president recently honoured for his (and its) contributions to the arts. As the critics say, the tickets are superb value for money and the quality of musicianship is outstanding. Come support them and treat yourself!
