Sydney Symphony Orchestra Performs Danny Elfman's Iconic Tim Burton Film Scores This Weekend

Visionary director Tim Burton and film composer Danny Elfman are responsible for some of the greatest moments in film history.

In celebration of the 30-year partnership between two of Hollywood's most creative minds, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra will perform Elfman's hauntingly beautiful scores from the films of Burton including The Nightmare before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, in two unmissable concerts tonight and tomorrow 10 and 11 July.

Grammy Award-winner and four-time Oscar nominee Elfman, who also penned the theme song for The Simpsons, has written the scores for 16 of Burton's films and describes his relationship with the director as "almost telepathic".

"Writing the score is the easy part," Elfman says. "Getting into the director's head and understanding their psyche is what's hard. But that's what you need to do: you have to be half-composer, half-psychiatrist."

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra performances will be accompanied by stunning visuals including Tim Burton's original sketches, drawings, story boards, and film clips, which will be rendered in exquisite detail on a large screen above the Concert Hall stage.
