Shopfront Presents New Work By Future Arts Leaders Shopfront Arts Co-op champions the voices of young artists and is proud to present Organs! a new movement-based theatre work written and directed by Shopfront Member, Nicole Pingon (18).

Building on the success of last years' Member Production, Star Crossed by Zack Lewin, Shopfront is excited to support Nicole as she makes her directorial debut with Organs! playing on the 26 - 29 April at Shopfront Arts Co-op in Carlton.

The Shopfront Member Production is an annual opportunity made available to young members where they can pitch an original idea to develop and perform in a season at Shopfront. Natalie Rose, Shopfront's Creative Director explains:

"Nicole pitched Organs!, a work set inside a human body and the idea - what if our organs communicated inside of us? What would they say? What would their personalities be like? These questions left us all amazed and frankly a little scared about what may be going on inside each of us and yourself, right now, while you are reading this. The young members voted and it was unanimous - Organs! had to be made."

As this years' successful project, Shopfront has fully supported Nicole to stage the premiere season of Organs! by providing her access to free rehearsal space, production and marketing support as well as mentorship from professional theatre maker and performer, Linda Luke. Nicole says,

"Developing, writing and directing my own piece has been such an incredible and invaluable experience to me as a young and emerging creative, and frankly a dream come true! Shopfront Arts Co-Op is where my artistic endeavour began, and I am immensely grateful for their continued support, allowing me to both explore my capacity as an artist, and create something that I will always be proud of."

ORGANS! by Nicole Pingon

Let's not get into organ politics right now.

Ignored, unappreciated and unwanted. Welcome to the world of the Disposables! Deep within the body, Appendix, Colon, Gallbladder and Spleen uncover truths about a world they previously believed to be their own.

Don't you ever wonder what's beyond these walls?

All these organs ever wanted was change, really big change. But they didn't want this...

Organs! pays homage to our bodies, and delves into the undercurrents of life, confronting us with the parts of ourselves that we often bury deep within. Hopes. Fears. Triumphs. Losses. Dreams. Truth. Security. Change.

Perhaps the world of our organs really isn't that different from our own.

Shopfront is for young people, by young people - we make sure their voices are heard.

Shopfront has been creating socially relevant, youth-led, multi art form work since its inception in 1976.

Shopfront is a space where young people come together to express themselves. To learn, share and bring their imaginations to life. A space for celebrating the amazing ideas and creativity generated by young people and emerging artists.

We're known for our daring, adventurous and socially relevant work with young people across Australia and internationally, and are still the only dedicated youth-led arts organisation in the Southern Sydney and Illawarra region.

We've got big plans for the future, and we hope you'll join us in promoting our mission to empower the young artists and social change makers of tomorrow. Starting today!
