New Theatre Partners with Sydney Fringe Once Again

By:

New Theatre is proud to once again be partnering with the Sydney Fringe Festival to present a program of exciting and varied works produced by some of Australia's most innovative theatre artists.

This year, we've curated a season of five productions ranging across drama, musical theatre and comedy, focussing on new work and gay theatre, with all five shows being seen in Sydney for the first time. New Theatre is also acting as lead producer for two of the shows.

YOUNG PRETENDER

By E V Crowe

Directed by Mark Nagle

Australian premiere, produced by New Theatre

13, 14, 15, 16, 17 September

A young rebel. A brutal victory. A devastating defeat.

Aged 25, the charismatic Bonnie Prince Charlie laid claim to the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland in a series of stunning military victories. By the time he was 26, his dreams lay in ruins and he was fleeing for his life.

A flawed and fanatical idealist is brought to life vividly in this unflinching look at the nature of rebellion.

"A witty take on politics and power that buzzes with contemporary relevance" The Independent

THE MEASURE OF A MAN

Written by Gavin Roach

Directed by Lauren Hopley

Sydney premiere, produced by Gavin Roach

13, 14, 15, 17,18 September

How do you measure a man?

Is it the way he walks? Is it the way he talks? Or is it the way he f-cks? Does he have to be hung, uncut and thick? Or just somewhere in between?

Critically acclaimed queer artist Gavin Roach lifts the lid on his own fears and insecurities as he explores what it takes to be a gay man in this millennial age.

"Audiences can expect to laugh and be moved frequently ... The play opens up important discussions as much as it opens your eyes" Australia Times

MUSICAL OF THRONES

By Daniel Cullen

Co-Directors Daniel Cullen and Bruno Dubosarsky
Co-Musical Directors Belinda Robinson and Oli Cameron

World premiere, produced by Tali M-K

16, 17, 18, 24 September

A laugh-out-loud musical parody of HBO's hit series, Game of Thrones, cranking silliness and pastiche to the max. This is epic theatre featuring a cast of thousands (well, twenty).

Childhood trauma? Broken families? Grieving mothers-turned-grieving-widows? Classic comedy!

Warning: This show is a musical comedy with adult themes, explicit language, and scantily clad men!

"Gloriously camp ... strikes just the right balance between steam and froth" Time Out London
