Manly Musical Society's BE MORE CHILL Returns

Following the success of its Australian Premiere earlier in the year, Manly Musical Society's production of Be More Chill returns this December. The original production was the inaugural presentation of THE BLACK BOX PROJECT, a developmental arm of the society, designed to bring new and exciting productions to the northern beaches of Sydney.

The show received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, playing to sold-out houses in March at the Manly Black Box Theatre.

Now Be More Chill returns as a fully-fledged main-stage production at The Star of the Sea in Manly, playing from Friday 7th - Saturday 15th December.

Director of the production, Sam Ducker, is thrilled to be able to continue the development of Be More Chill and to have the opportunity to bring back a fan-favourite: "Building on such a strong starting point has been a really rewarding experience The focus for the 'upgrade' has been thinking outside the box - exploring what we can do differently and how we can take the original production even further, whilst keeping the intimacy and accessibility intact for the audiences."

Based on the novel by Ned Vizzini, Be More Chill follows average teenager, Jeremy Heere. A loser trying to survive his New Jersey high school, Jeremy has no hope of ever being one of the cool kids, or scoring a date with his long-term crush Christine. That is, until he finds out about the SQUIP. A tiny supercomputer implanted in his brain, SQUIP promises to teach him the way to conquer high school and bring him everything he desires... But is the quest to be the most popular guy in school worth the price?

The cast consists of a dynamic ensemble of seventeen - Luke Arthur, Keira Connelly, Isaac Broadbent, Abby Van Balkom, Charlize Spillane, Laura Banning, Chris O'Shea, Molly McCrann, Matt Shepherd, Anthony Mason, Hannah Gibbins, Tasmin Harper, Jessica Kok, Taylah Leonard, Reece Prosper, Brie Patterson and Julián Díaz - many of whom are returning members of original production, with a few fresh faces thrown in the mix.

Featuring a pop-rock score by Joe Iconis, and a book by Joe Tracz, Be More Chill gives a sci-fi twist to the teen-musical genre. With a sharp edge of humour and explosive energy, Manly Musical Society's return season of Be More Chill is not to be missed.
