Jon Nicholls Steps Down as Executive Producer of Helpmann Awards

Live Performance Australia (LPA) announced today that Executive Producer, Jon Nicholls, has decided to bring down the curtain after seven years at the helm to pursue other projects.

Chief Executive, Evelyn Richardson said, “We salute Jon for his outstanding contribution to the show over the past seven years. His professionalism and long standing commitment have been quite extraordinary. We very much look forward to Monday evening’s show which we know will be wonderful. As always, it will be a big night celebrating our industry and all those who work within it.”

Nicholls said "It has been a wonderful journey but after twelve years, seven of which as Executive Producer, it is time to hand over the baton to someone with a fresh approach who can take the Helpmanns to the next level."

Jon Nicholls, who has been closely involved in the Helpmann Awards since their inception in 2001, took up the mantle as Executive Producer in 2006. Ross Cunningham, Chair of the Helpmann Awards® Administration Committee (HAAC) said “Having worked closely with Jon over the past seven years on the Helpmann Awards in my role as Chair of the Administration Committee, I can proudly say that it has been my unique pleasure to work with such a collaborative, thoughtful, professional and passionate producer as Jon.

"Jon has taken the Helpmann Awards to another level in his time as Executive Producer. In particular, with his guiding hand the Helpmanns have grown to become what is without doubt our industry’s most important Award to receive. He was instrumental in taking the Helpmanns to one of the world’s most iconic venues, the Sydney Opera House, its home for the last four years. He has also been at the forefront in building and securing groundbreaking deals with Destination New South Wales, Foxtel and Sydney Opera House. 

"I can’t thank Jon enough for his contribution and dedication to the Helpmanns over these last seven years.”

The 2012 Helpmann Awards will be hosted at the Opera Theatre, Sydney Opera House on Monday 24 September, and will be broadcast exclusively the following night on Australia’s arts and entertainment channel STUDIO – channel 132 on Foxtel.
