Holroyd Musical & Dramatic Society Presents A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

Join in on a journey through the forest, unlike you've ever seen it before, as HMDS explores the classic Shakespearean comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream, with the same hilarious characters we all know and love and all it's plot twists and mischief.

The forest is not what it seems, the seasons have changed and the land is undistinguishable.

Come and see this story unfold as we delve into an un-recyclable, single- use world of convenience. How did the world become like this? How does this impact the greater world around us, the world we can't always see, the atmosphere and the environment?

Who will be there at the end of it all to restore everything to functionality, or are we in a cycle we cannot get out of? Come and join us during Midsummer on the shortest day and longest night and see what happens when the humans delve into unknown territory and the Fairy world comes out to play...

The premise for our production of A Midsummer Night's Dream is centered around the environment. Within the text there are golden nuggets of information that indicate that the environment is in disrepair. Much like our current state of being in the real world, the humans in this play turn a blind eye to the impact that their actions have. We have the fairy world, who represent nature, who are trying to restore the environment and we have the human world who are blissfully unaware of the huge impact that they have, sweeping it under the rug and easily making it someone else's problem to deal with. But TIME IS UP, there is no one else to deal with the problem we face as humanity faces extinction along with all other species. "I am sent with broom before to sweep the dust behind the door..." this is one of Pucks lines in the play toward the end, when everything is beginning to be restored and peace filters through both realms.

Through interaction with production elements such as set, costumes and props and through the various different relationship dynamics and struggles throughout the play, we aim to raise a question for our audience and leave them hanging with the statement "Never throw anything away, there is no away."

We encourage all audience members to delve deeper into this Comedy and go on a journey with us as we explore the depths of human relationships, societal expectations and how we turn a blind eye to so many things physically and emotionally in humanity.
