Griffin Theatre Company Receives Commonwealth Government Funding

Griffin Theatre Company welcomes Commonwealth Government support to help celebrate 50 years of Australian storytelling at the SBW Stables Theatre

Griffin has planned a series of activities to complement its regular program of new and classic Australian plays to mark this important anniversary of the home of Griffin, Nimrod and hundreds of independent Australian theatre makers.

The celebration will include play readings, podcasts, talks and discussions, the development of an interactive archive, plus quite a bit of fun. This grant from the Commonwealth will provide Griffin with the resources to stage these activities.

Griffin Artistic Director, Lee Lewis said, "Griffin has long been acknowledged as the heartland of new Australian stories, and the theatre we occupy has been pivotal to the lives and careers of many of Australia's best known actors, writers, directors and other theatre professionals for nearly half a century. It is fitting that we acknowledge the SBW Stables for the essential role it has played in creating a vibrant theatre scene in Sydney and around the whole country.

"We are grateful to the Government, and especially Senator Fifield, for their support for what will be an exciting and significant year."
