Griffin Theatre Company Presents the World Premiere of THE FEATHER IN THE WEB By Nick Coyle Image

A Lysicrates Prize finalist, The Feather in the Web is Nick Coyle's wild and unpredictable take on infatuation and self-discovery. Griffin's former Artistic Associate Ben Winspear returns to direct Tina Bursill, Gareth Davies, Michelle Lim Davidson and Claire Lovering in what can only be described as one of the most inventive plays to land on the SBW stage and a startling coming of age story. Part picaresque, part fable, moving from engagement parties to improv comedy, the play skewers our obsession with couples and careers and asks just how much we're willing to give, and lose, for love?

Kimberly is a character like no other. She's powerful, wicked, in control-but she has no voice. So she sets out to find it, leaving a trail of car crashes and crying people in her wake. Then she meets Miles. And she'll do anything he says.

For Griffin Theatre Company'S Lee Lewis, "Nick effortlessly and inventively shifts between the playful and the disturbing. The result is a powerful bellow about owning your decisions and finding your voice." She adds, "we're thrilled that Ben is coming back as director. One of the most extraordinary pieces of theatre I've ever seen was directed by Ben."

Nick Coyle is a writer, performer and director internationally renowned for his one-person shows. His work Queen of Wolves played to critical acclaim in seasons at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Hen and Chickens in London and Giant Dwarf. His other works include his sell-out Double Tribute, Blue Wizard (Belvoir) and Nick Coyle's Guided Meditation. Griffin's former Artistic Associate, Ben Winspear recently featured opposite his wife Marta Dusseldorp in Queensland Theatre's Scenes from a Marriage. His other theatre credits include The Unchartered Hour, Faustus, Frankenstein and Baghdad Wedding for which he won a Helpmann Award. Ben has also appeared extensively on film and television with roles in House of Hancock, A Place to Call Home, Underbelly and Crownies.

Claire Lovering will be remembered by audiences for her recent acclaimed performances in Sydney Theatre Company's Top Girls and Dinner, and Ensemble's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Her other stage credits include Sport for Jove's The Importance of Being Earnest and Darlinghurst Theatre Company's Detroit. One of Australia's most recognisable stage and screen actors, Tina Bursill has appeared recently in Hayes Theatre Company's Me and My Girl and Sydney Theatre Company's Boys Will be Boys. Her many film and television credits include Doctor Doctor, Neighbours, Crownies, All Saints and Rake. Gareth Davies returns to Griffin after his recent performance in The Literati. His other many recent stage credits include Sydney Theatre Company's Saint Joan, Melbourne Theatre Company's Hay Fever and Belvoir's The Rover. One of Australia's rising stage talents, Michelle Lim Davidson, will be remembered for her recent roles in Sydney Theatre Company's Top Girls and Ensemble Theatre's The Plant. She has presented extensively on Playschool television and stage show and has also appeared in Top of the Lake, Doctor Doctor and Utopia.
