Five Young Singers to Compete in Australian Singing Competition Finals

On Sunday 4 June 2017, eleven very impressive young singers competed in the Semi-Finals Concert of the IFAC HANDA AUSTRALIAN SINGING COMPETITION at the Independent Theatre, North Sydney. The semi-finalists were selected from heats held around the country, in New Zealand and in in London.

The singers performed in front of an impressive judging panel including National Adjudicator Catrin Johnsson, Tahu Matheson, Emma Matthews, Raff Wilson and Narelle Yeo. David Harper was accompanist with Guest Compere Camille Mer?ep.

On the night five finalists were chosen to go through to the Finals Concert that will be held on Saturday 15 July at The Concourse, Chatswood. The lucky five include Damian Arnold (Tenor 25) from NSW, Livia Brash (Soprano 25) also from NSW, Filipe Manu (Tenor 24) from New Zealand, Daniel Carison (Baritone 24) from Victoria and Shikara Ringdahl ((Mezzo Soprano 25) from Brisbane.

For a fraction of the cost of a ticket to the opera you can enjoy an evening hearing the finest classical singing from charming lieder to lyrical arias as each performer sings two pieces accompanied by the Opera Australia Orchestra with guest conductor Maestro Nicholas Milton AM.

These bright young operatic stars are competing for over $200,00 in prizes and career opportunities and the chance to take home the Marianne Mathy Scholarship.
