Our current stories are built from the stories of our ancestors. These beautiful, diverse, after-a-better-life migrant past-selves are the stones that fell into the Australian pond and haven't stopped rippling.
The K. C. Company is thrilled to be joining forces with Melbourne-grown, internationally successful musician Josh Cake to produce a cabaret as rowdy as Grandma's 90th birthday.
Cake's witty lyrics and unfathomably catchy melodies are joining forces with comedians/musicians Nicola Kuiper and Sandy Whittem to give a modern voice to a timeless journey.
Premiering at Sydney's Blood Moon Theatre, this musical comedy cabaret tells the true tales of two extraordinary women and their anything-but ordinary lives in the lead up to, the after-the-fact, and the actualization of immigrating to Australia. Irena and Dorothy arrived from Poland and Canada, respectively, after living through wars, romances, cabbages, and really really really cold weather. Our performers, Sandy and Nicola, bring these elements and more to the stage as they jump and cartwheel and sashay through a variety of characters, and bring these incredible stories together with their own.
