The inaugurAl White Night Ballarat will burst to life taking over the city's streets, laneways, parklands, public spaces and cultural institutions of Ballarat on Saturday 4 March, 2017. Preceding this and returning for its fifth year is White Night Melbourne set to take place on Saturday 18 February, 2017.

Expressions of interest from artists and performers wanting to participate in White Night Ballarat open tomorrow and full details can be found at www.whitenightballarat.com.au

Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley said, "Next year's White Night events will be an opportunity to showcase the diversity and talent of our creative state to hundreds of thousands of people of all ages. These events will be platforms for independent artists, arts and cultural organisations and creative businesses from right across the state so if you've got an idea that will showcase Ballarat or Melbourne in a whole new light, I encourage you to get involved."

White Night 2017 Artistic Director and Executive Producer, David Atkins, said "My team and I are very excited at the prospect of creating White Night in Ballarat. The City is a veritable "Gold Mine" of architecture, buildings and locations that will provide a spectacular canvas for White Night. Coupled with the outstanding facilities is a long tradition of both performing and visual arts that are part of Ballarat's heritage and will combine to make White Night Ballarat a landmark event."

White Night is continuously looking for new and exciting artists to work with and showcase at its events. At the 2016 event in February this year, Ballarat's very own Pitcha Makin Fellas in collaboration with Portuguese lighting and projection artists OCUBO, lit up the Royal Exhibition Building and had the critics raving. The façade of the National Gallery of Victoria was brought to life by award-winning Ballarat artist Josh Muir titled Still Here. Next year, the spotlight will be on the city of Ballarat where its iconic buildings will be the backdrop to regional Victoria's first White Night.

White Night Ballarat is the city as you know it, turned on its head in a dusk 'til dawn celebration of culture and creativity. A night where the surreal seems real, White Night Ballarat is a rare opportunity to experience the city in a different light.

The event transforms the impossible into the possible through installation, lighting, exhibitions, street performances, film, music, dance and interactive events taking place in the streets and laneways, parklands, public spaces and cultural institutions of Ballarat.

Expressions of Interest open tomorrow through to midnight on the 5th September 2016 via the White Night Ballarat website www.whitenightballarat.com.au

Ballarat in Victoria is making history being the first regionAl White Night joining Melbourne, Paris, Toronto and Sao Paolo as part of an international network of creative cities holding Nuit Blanche events annually.
