You've seen her as Bette Midler, you've seen her as Christine McVie now see celebrated cabaret performer Catherine Alcorn as you've never seen her before.

Returning to Slide for the first time in two years, Catherine will introduce audiences to a character they may not have met before... Catherine Alcorn. She's sassy, classy and a bit bad assy.

"It's time to be me," she says. "Since I began in cabaret I've only played (fabulous) characters - Bette Midler and Christine McVie - and now I'm aching to simply be me and sing new material with my own voice."

Catherine, who has been busy touring the country in The Divine Miss Bette, paying tribute to Bette Midler and Go Your Own Way, paying tribute to Fleetwood Mac's incredible songwriter Christine McVie, will make her triumphant return to Sydney's iconic venue Slide Lounge on Wednesday June 8 and she says she is excited to introduce herself to audiences.

"Audiences have only ever seen me play characters so the fact that it will just be me as myself sharing my stories is far different to anything anyone has seen before," she says.

Along with her award-winning cabaret performances, 2014 and 2015 were busy years for the seductive songstress. She performed the role of Festival Ambassador for the Noosa Long Weekend two years running, appearing in several shows and celebrating the festival's many highlights with audiences from around the country. In 2015 she also took her first steps into straight theatre in the Australian premiere of the critically acclaimed smash 5 Lesbians Eating A Quiche.

"This was my first straight (gay) play since graduating from Uni! Working with this incredible ensemble was some of the best fun I've had in years. I love being part of a company. There's something so special about sharing those moments on stage. It's certainly a different dynamic to performing a one woman show."

To top off an already extraordinary year, Catherine also released her debut album A REAL CHARACTER featuring tracks from her hugely successful cabaret shows The Divine Miss Bette, Go Your Own Way and a one-off special for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival Nothing But A Song.

CATHARTIC will see Catherine perform a collection of rock, pop, jazz and blues featuring everyone from Florence to Flack, with her regular band back at her old haunt, Slide. And she promises that audiences who have seen her before will be in for a treat. "Of course there will still be the cheek, sassiness and rock elements audiences have enjoyed in my other productions but it will be all new material from artists I haven't sung before," she says. "We have Jeremy Brennan on keys, Glenn Moorhouse on guitar and Jamie Castrisos on percussion. These incredible artists are have toured the world with me as players, and are now stepping up to create CATHARTIC with me. It's so exciting to work with them in this capacity. We are giving the material a different treatment. Lots of experimental sounds, looping and beautiful harmonies."

Described by The Australian's Women's Weekly as as "magnificent" with "a voice to die for" Catherine Alcorn is a performer you don't want to miss.

CATHARTIC plays its Sydney premiere on Wednesday June 8 at Slide Lounge Sydney and tickets are on sale now.
