The Presenters Dolan Welcome JIMMY WEBB to the Kranzberg 3/17-19

By:

The Presenters Dolan welcome songwriting hall of fame member Jimmy Webb to the Kranzberg Arts Center 3/17-3/19/2011 with performances at 8pm on all three nights. Tickets are $35 for general seating and $55 for preferred seating. For more information go to www.licketytix.com or call 314-725-4200, ext 10.

It is widely recognized that multi-Grammy-Award winner Jimmy Webb is one of our best and most acclaimed songwriters. (Just last month he was elected Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.) It is less well known that he is a first rate performer, and what a treat to see him in this intimate venue. With great songs, and great stories about his friends who recorded them, Jimmy fully connects in what is a terrific show. After a month-long tour of Ireland and the UK, he'll be here on St. Patrick's Day and weekend. He'll be telling some Ireland stories -- there's a very funny one about traveling around rural Ireland, lost, with Richard Harris.

What speaks to the talent and influence of Jimmy Webb is not just the enduring popularity of his songs, and not just the total number of famous singers who do them, but also their appeal in vastly diverse styles and genres - from pop to country to folk to rock. He is best known for songs recorded by Glen Campbell (By The Time I Get to Phoenix, Wichita Lineman, Galveston), Richard Harris (MacArthur Park, Didn't We), The Fifth Dimension, (Up, Up and Away), Art Garfunkel (All I Know) and Joe Cocker (The Moon's A Harsh Mistress). Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson reached #1 in the late 80's with Webb's The Highwayman, a ballad that won Webb another Grammy for Best Country Song of the Year, and CMA Single of the Year. Linda Ronstadt included four of Webb's songs on her double platinum album Cry Like A Rainstorm, Howl Like The Wind. His work is also included in the recordings of Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Urge Overkill, R.E.M., Michael Feinstein (an entire album devoted to Jimmy's songs), Frank Sinatra, Nanci Griffith, Billy Joel, Vince Gill, Jackson Browne, Judy Collins, Elvis Presley and
Bob Dylan.

Webb's most recent album was last year's Just Across the River.
