The Fox Theater Organ Tour Returns 9/1, Local Organists Set To Play

The mighty Wurlitzer organ has been silent at the Fabulous Fox Theatre since late September 2008 when longtime Fox organist Stan Kann passed away. The Fox is pleased to announce that beginning September 1, 2009, the Saturday public tours of the Fox Theatre will once again include an organ presentation at one of the two Wurlitzer organs located in the theatre. Local organists Dennis Ammann, Ken Iborg, Jack Jenkins, Jack Moelmann and Ed Plitt will alternate playing the organ. Prices for the Tuesday & Thursday public tour are $5 for adults and $3 for students and children. Prices for the Saturday public tour with the organ presentation are $8 for adults and $4 for students and children.

Tours of the Fox Theatre are conducted every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday (except holidays) at 10:30AM. The tours begin from the theatre's box office located directly north of the front brass doors. Each tour lasts approximately 1 ½ hours. Free parking is available for tours. Reservations are not needed for groups of less than 20. Private tours for groups of 20 or more can be arranged by contacting the Fox Theatre tour department at 314.657.5068. Accessibility to backstage areas and the use of the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ may be prohibited due to show scheduling or maintenance. Public tours include all areas of the theatre including a visit to the newest attraction, "A Tribute to Stan Kann" located on the 4th floor of the theatre adjoining Peacock Alley. The exhibit is free and open to the public before and during performances along with being a part of the regularly scheduled Fox tours. St. Louisan Stan Kann is an important part of the Fabulous Fox's history. He played the mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ from 1950-1975 and from 1998-2008. Stan was one of the most renowned theatre organists in North America and toured extensively. Stan Kann was also a guru of gadgets, a viceroy of vacuums and a master of mayhem. In the 1950's Stan was a prominent St. Louis television personality and performed regularly at the Carasal Cocktail Lounge on Locust, Musical & Biggie's and Ruggeri's. In the ‘70's, ‘80's and ‘90's Stan became a national TV personality appearing regularly on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, The Merv Griffin Show and The Mike Douglas Show to name but a few.
