Armenian Folk Singer Mariam Matossian to Appear At Centre Stage 3/12

By: Mar. 02, 2011

Armenian folk singer Mariam Matossian is appearing in a concert at Centre Stage on Saturday, March 12th at 7:00 p.m. "A Night of World Music with Mariam & Friends" will feature Ms. Matossian, John Berberian, Free Planet Radio, Sarkis Chorbadjian, and Songs of Water.

The Greenville News arts writer, Ann Hicks described Ms. Matossian as an artist with "a rare fusion of storytelling and vocal artistry that at times sent shivers down your spine."

Nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award (Outstanding world Music Album of the Year for her album, In the Light) and two Canadian Folk Music Awards (Traditional Album of the Year for In the Light and Best New/Emerging Artist) in 2008, Ms. Matossian is an example of the musical treasures that exist in the world next door. Vancouver born and raised, Ms. Matossian has been collecting traditional Armenian folk songs and creating her own melodies since she was a child. Most of the traditional songs she sings have been passed down through her family -- songs that have been favorites of her grandmother and her mother, and now they have become her own favorites.

Tickets for "A Night of World Music with Mariam & Friends" can be reserved by calling the Centre Stage box office at 864-233-6733. Tickets reserved by March 12th are $30 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the door on the evening of the concert for $35 per person. Box office hours are Tuesday through Friday from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
