Sometimes in life what is needed most is editing. And so it goes with the Strand's original production of WHAT A GIRL WANTS. The play centers on a group of women preparing for a charity fashion show. Stacks of clothes next to the stage serve as a metaphor for a play that suffers from clutter. There are too many characters spending too much time carrying and hanging up all those clothes. All the words get lost in the back and forth and coming and going.
Audiences will be captivated at what happens on stage when the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre presents 'The Madwoman of Chaillot' tonight through Nov. 17, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. But equally fascinating and impressive is what goes on behind the scenes of this SFA production of the play written by French dramatist Jean Giraudoux and adapted by Maurice Valency. It was an early morning for fans of Olivier nominated stage star John Barrowman today in the U.K. Beginning at 7.45am, fans braved the cold to start the queue at Dress Circle to have their copies of Barrowman's new autobiography 'I Am What I Am' signed by the star. By 11.00am the queue was over 200 and snaking around the block. Despite the grey day, reportedly a good time was had by all.
