On Friday, April 27th 2018, the Emerson String Quartet collaborated with celebrated Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin. The concert, presented at Carnegie Hall, featured Mr.Kissin in each work on the program.
'One Drop,' a family drama with music by Andrea J. Fulton, brings to life the politics of a young mixed-race man's 'passing' for white in post-Civil War Louisiana, illustrating the risks taken by those not afraid to love despite bigotry. The piece, inspired by the playwright's actual family history, tells the story of a family torn apart by racism but ultimately reunited. It debuted in Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival in 2010. TNC will present a revival of the play, directed by Sabura Rashid, from February 1 to 18 in honor of Black History Month.
Actors Co-op (Ovation Award-Winner 2014 Best Intimate Theatre Musical for 110 in the Shade) presents the second show in its celebratory 25th Silver Anniversary season with the frightfully delightful THE TURN OF THE SCREW by Jeffrey Hatcher from the classic story by Henry James and directed by Robertson Dean (Antigone - A Noise Within). THE TURN OF THE SCREW previewed on Wednesday, October 12 and Thursday, October 13 at 8pm and opened on Friday, October 14 at 8pm; it runs through Sunday, November 20 at the Actors Co-op Crossley Theatre, 1760 N. Gower St. (on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood) in Hollywood.
Today, NYC Parks celebrated the centennial of one of the City's crown jewels, an artwork of worldwide significance, as well as a community landmark, its first-ever erected statue of a woman -- The Joan of Arc Memorial in Riverside Park -- with a birthday gathering in its honor.
