The World Premiere of Between the Threads began previews at HERE on January 18. The production runs until February 10, with Opening Night slated for January 25. Between the Threads is directed by Coral Cohen who also conceived the piece, and features original music by Violinist Zoe Aqua. The limited run features an all-female-identified cast who helped develop the piece.

Federico GarcÃa Lorca's 1936 play, The House of Bernarda Alba, changed his life -- GarcÃa Lorca's brave and unique voice challenged the oppressive nature of Spanish society, and gave a scared young teenager the courage to speak, to love himself, and to find freedom. In Waiting for Pepe, Pons Guerra infuses GarcÃa Lorca's tale of family intrigue with the exuberant theatricality of Latin films and telenovelas.

Latinx communities have long been left out of U.S. and Latin American histories. Latinos in the U.S often don't know their own histories because Latinx history and literature is often not part of their schooling experiences. There are so many ways that literature for youth functions as a way of recovering those lost histories and keeping them in view of young audiences, who may not hear them otherwise. We must consider the reality that ethnic and Latinx Studies have been banned in states in the Southwest and continue to struggle for representation throughout the U.S. educational pipeline. It is important to tell these stories in a city with such a large population who would benefit from it.
