The 70th Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 12th at 8/9c hosted by James Corden. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize.

Arena Stage just announced an exciting, starry 2016/17 season, which will showcase the theater's mission of American voices and artists.

As reported by The New York Times last weekend, Billie Allen, who helped "bridge the racial gap" both on and off-Broadway in the 1950s and '60s, passed away on December 29, 2015. She was 90 years old.

Women's Project Theater, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Lisa McNulty and Managing Director Maureen Moynihan, in conjunction with Farrar, Straus and Giroux, has announced DEAR MISS BISHOP: Poets in Conversation with Sarah Ruhl's Dear Elizabeth, a series of conversations with important contemporary poets to accompany the current presentation of Sarah Ruhl's DEAR ELIZABETH, now playing at the WP's new artistic home, the McGinn/Cazale Theater.

The Riant Theatre's launch party for the 28th Season of the Strawberry One-Act Festival featured a special Pioneer of the Arts Award presentation to South African born, Obie Award winning director Liesl Tommy (Appropriate), who was recently tapped to direct Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o in her first New York play Eclipsed by playwright-actress Danai Guira (The Walking Dead.)  The Riant Theatre will kick off the  Strawberry One-Act Festival with a launch party and reception  presenting Pioneer of the Arts Awards honoring  Liesl Tommy, Obie winning director from South Africa, and Peter Anthony Andrews, the first African American TV network entertainment vice president, on Sunday, July 26 at the Poet's Den Theatre, 309 East 108th Street from 3:00pm - 7:00pm.  Tickets for the event are $50.

St. Petersburg City Theatre continues its 90th Mainstage Season, presented by Raymond James, with the Tony Award and Pulitzer-Prize winning CLYBOURNE PARK, written by Bruce Norris. Opening night is tonight, April 17, 2015 and the production runs through May 3, 2015. There is a talk-back planned on April 19 following the performance.

SEATTLE, WA - Pacific Northwest Ballet's Swan Lake, choreographed by Founding Artistic Director Kent Stowell, returns to the McCaw Hall stage as the fifth offering of PNB's 2014-15 season. This beloved story ballet, revered by audiences and dancers alike, is classical ballet at its very best. Sumptuous scenery, costumes, and lighting, and an achingly beautiful Tchaikovsky score, set the stage for the ethereal corps de ballet and the ultimate challenge for ballerinas all over the world—the dual role of Odette, trapped in the body of a white swan until the oath of her true love sets her free; and Odile, the “Black Swan” temptress. On March 11, 1959, a play opened on Broadway that changed American theatre forever. 'A Raisin in the Sun' examined issues that had never been presented on Broadway. It was the first play written by a black woman to be presented on Broadway with Broadway's first black director. This heartwarming, hilarious, groundbreaking story of a family's heroic efforts to make a better life for their children will run at Open Stage of Harrisburg today, February 6-22, 2015.

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Rehearsals are underway for Driving Miss Daisy, the second show of Dallas Theater Center's 2014-15 season. Joel Ferrell, director and choreographer of DTC's hot-ticket production of The Rocky Horror Show, directs Driving Miss Daisy, which marks DTC's return to the historic Kalita Humphreys Theater for the first time in one and a half years. Driving Miss Daisy begins previews on Thursday, October 16 with a Pay-What-You-Can performance and runs through Sunday, November 16.
