BWW Review: The Roxy Regional Theatre's AMERICAN IDIOT is Electrifyingly Immersive
by Jeffrey Ellis - May 10, 2016

As exhilaratingly in-your-face as only the very best of contemporary theater can deliver, Green Day's American Idiot - now onstage in a startlingly emphatic and exuberant production at Clarksville's Roxy Regional Theatre - exemplifies just how far the company itself has come since its beginnings as a community theater. Now, serving as a training ground for some of the very best of musical theater stars-to-come, The Roxy has more than come into its own, continuing to push the envelope, to challenge audiences to expand their artistic purview and to create theater that is as compelling as any you'll find on a stage anywhere in the good ol' US of A.

As Charlie “Bird” Parker, the great jazz saxophonist, who is the central character in CHARLIE PARKER'S YARDBIRD--the opera that had its New York premiere last week at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem--Lawrence Brownlee wonderfully embraced the classical and bebop sides of the score.

BWW Review: ALL SHOOK UP Searches for Love with the Music of Elvis Presley
by Shari Barrett - Mar 7, 2016

The iconic music of Elvis Presley inspired writer Joe Dipietro to create ALL SHOOK UP, a musical set in 1955 utilizing the rock 'n roll star's songs. The bottom line with Elvis's music is that it makes a lot of people very happy, even 50 years after it was recorded. And Dipietro thought, what other type of entertainment form does that? And that's when he came up with the Shakespeare comedies, which are very much about love and finding your joy, marriage, passion, and all the good stuff of life. And of course, frequent cases of mistaken identity!

The people who wanted that information were the Time Lords, who trapped him in his own confession dial. BWW Review: Rollins College's TARTUFFE is Fun, but Thin Comedic Classic
by Matt Tamanini - Nov 18, 2015

What if instead of encouraging Jay Gatsby to find the greatness in his true self, Nick Carraway had led his rich friend down a path of phony-spiritualism that brought him to the brink of bankruptcy? That is the premise behind the Jazz Age-inspired production of Moliere's TARTUFFE running at Rollins College's Annie Russell Theatre through November 21st. Directed by John Christopher Jones, a veteran of 15 Broadway shows, including the 1990 revival of Moliere's THE MISER, the production makes great use of a uniformly delightful cast to create a whimsical evening of classic theatrical farce, even if it they never seem to get the most out of the more than 350-year-old text.

With a keen eye for the smallest details, Kasper shared her canny observations about men's features and what they reveal about men's personalities in her insightful and thigh-slapping humorous dating guide for women, Sensing Mr. Right Guy. BWW Reviews: New Asian Tour of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER
by Rocky Christopher Fajardo - Jul 25, 2015

Tony Manero--of Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group's (ATEG) 2015 Asian touring production of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (SNF), which is based on John Badham's '70s landmark film of the same name--would have succumbed to the evil oblivion of his own fever had it not been for one simple--yet pivotal--plot deviation. The inevitable loss that awaited him is not alien but one all too familiar to all those coming of age--and it is through recognizing this evil that he realizes, it is better not to struggle against it but to just flow with it.

by Joseph OHern - Nov 21, 2014

I've seen it happen a million times, well probably not exactly a million because that's dramatic but you get my point. And who is officially guilty of doing just that? Andrew. And who doesn't like it in the least bit? Stu. Let's the games begin…

Bookworks Presents Today's Shelf Awareness for Readers
by BWW News Desk - Oct 7, 2014

I always look forward to our Book Brahmin author questionnaire series, but I have to keep myself from skipping ahead to one question: Book you've faked reading. Some people claim they never do it, but I love the brazen responses the most. Moby-Dick gets cited often, as does Ulysses. I have read neither and haven't lied about it, but I suffer from a different (related) problem.
