BWW Review: Richard Tucker Gala Anoints Jamie Barton 2015 Prize Winner at Geffen Hall Concert
by Richard Sasanow - Nov 13, 2015

The Richard Tucker Music Foundation's annual galas--celebrating each year's winner of the Tucker Award to young American singers--are known for two things. First, they are notoriously fun evenings of opera warhorses and, second, they are guessing games: Which of the singers scheduled to perform won't show up? This year's gala fulfilled the first object delectably, as it celebrated mezzo Jamie Barton, but, surprise!, almost everyone appeared as scheduled, with one very noticeable exception.

BWW Interview: NY Times Best Selling Author Karin Slaughter Discusses PRETTY GIRLS
by Matt Tamanini - Nov 6, 2015

In her latest book, PRETTY GIRLS, New York Times bestselling author Karin Slaughter has adjusted her perspective ever so slightly, resulting in a thoroughly captivating page-turner that reads like a Southern Gothic novel mixed with a modern, edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller. Slaughter is primarily known as the author of the Will Trent and Grant County series of books, both of which center on law enforcement officers working in her home state of Georgia. While PRETTY GIRLS does take place in and around Atlanta, the book's main characters are not the individual's paid to investigate crimes, but instead are people impacted by crimes who take it upon themselves to get to the bottom of a deeply-personal mystery.

BWW Review: Ancient ANTIGONE Lives Again with Juliette Binoche
by Jeffrey Walker - Oct 27, 2015

Stripped to the essentials - a stage, a handful of actors, a rapt audience - ANTIGONE recently proved once again its place in the pantheon of the world's finest tragic plays. The international production of the Sophokles drama made a short stop in Washington for the last leg of a national tour of select American cities, helmed by the Belgian theatre wunderkind Ivo van Hove. French film and theatre star Juliette Binoche led an ensemble of U.K.-based actors who clearly illuminated the timeless tale of family devotion versus the law.

BWW Review: SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK LIVE! a Disappointing Opening at OCTA
by Steve Wilson - Sep 15, 2015

Opening night for SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK LIVE! at the Olathe Civic Theatre on Friday September 11 was billed as a show full of energy, humor, music, dancing and some very valuable grammar lessons. Unfortunately, the show became more of a test of tolerance for low energy acting, singing that made audience members cringe, and choreography that was awkward and unimaginative at the best.
