As spectacular as the lights of the Aurora Borealis, that is how Spinning Tree Theatre lit up the stage on opening night of Fiddler on the Roof at the Just Off Broadway Theatre. Jerry Bock wrote the music, Sheldon Harnick the lyrics, and Joseph Stein the book for Fiddler on the Roof, a musical based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Dairyman) and others stories written by Sholem Aleichem.

Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Jam Theatricals just announced that five-time Tony Award-nominee and Drama Desk & Outer Critics Circle Award winner Danny Burstein (Cabaret, Golden Boy, Follies, South Pacific) will step into the iconic role of Tevye when Fiddler on the Roofbegins performances on Broadway on November 17, 2015. Rehearsals are set to begin September 28, 2015.

Spinning Tree Theatre closes its fourth season with the timeless musical classic Fiddler on the Roof. The 2014-2015 season of Spinning Tree featured several firsts for the theatrical production company. The addition of Fiddler on the Roof as the first year of four shows, the first time a Spinning Tree production was directed by someone outside the organization (Walter Coppage directing Black Pearl Sings!), and the first time the company produced a local playwright (Frank Higgins Black Pearl Sings!).

One of the most popular musicals in history, the Jerry Bock-Joseph Stein-Sheldon Harnick masterpiece plays tonight, March 26-April 26 at the NTC Playhouse, 5420 Nave Drive in Novato. The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, the Frederick-area's only year-round producing theatre, will welcome the return of a classic musical that holds a special place in the hearts of theatergoers. Fiddler on the Roof first appeared on the Way Off Broadway stage during the 2006 Season. That production broke box office records for the theatre and to this day, audiences still ask when the show will return. Beginning tonight, March 13th, Fiddler on the Roof will make its return to Way Off Broadway with a new staging for the spring.

Today in 2004, Fiddler on the Roof opened at the Minskoff Theatre, where it ran for 781 performances. Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Milkman and Other Tales) by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3,000 performances.

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre just wrapped up its production of Fiddler on the Roof - a colorful, reimagined version of the classic Tony Award-winning musical, directed and choreographed by Tony Award-nominated director Marcia Milgrom Dodge. Set in 1905 in the village of Anatevka in Tsarist, Russia, the story follows dairyman Tevye as he fights to maintain his family and heritage. Broadway's Robert Petkoff, who starred as Tevye in the production, just released a series of 1900s-style portraits of the cast, and you can check out the beautiful images below!
