Founding Artistic Director Vincent M. Lancisi directs a sprawling cast of actors and collaborators in Everyman Theatre's sweeping season opener, M. Butterfly, in performances September 6 - October 8, 2017. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this season, David Henry Hwang's torrid and timeless Tony Award-winning play is a masterful probe of truth, illusion, culture and gender-based on an epic true story.

Samuel Beckett (1906-1989) is widely recognized as one of the greatest dramatists of the 20th century. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969, and is best known for his play Waiting for Godot which launched his career in theater. He then went on to write numerous successful full-length plays including Endgame in 1957, Krapp's Last Tape in 1958 and Happy Days in 1960, as well as several short, one-act plays. While his plays may not be for everyone, Beckett's works capture the pathos and ironies of modern life, yet still maintain his faith in man's capacity for compassion and survival no matter how absurd his environment may have become.

 Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Artistic Director Glenn Edgerton are excited to announce the main company's return to the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago for danc(e)volve: New Works Festival, May 10–14, 2017 in the Edlis Neeson Theater, located at 220 East Chicago Avenue in Chicago. Hou Hsiao-hsien, the leading figure of the Taiwanese New Cinema movement, is one of the most important and influential filmmakers to emerge over the past three decades. His sensuous, richly textured work, marked by elegantly staged long takes and an elliptical approach to storytelling, can be seen in such widely acclaimed films as Flowers of Shanghai, A City of Sadness, Dust in the Wind, and Flight of the Red Balloon. His modernist formalism was complemented by a humanist touch expressed most strongly in films that addressed Taiwan's history and identity, often laced with Hou's own memories. From today, September 12 through October 17, 2014, Museum of the Moving Image will present Also like Life: The Films of Hou Hsiao-hsien-the first comprehensive Hou retrospective in New York since 1999. It includes all of Hou's seventeen feature films as director, presented on film (including two new 35mm prints), as well as rare shorts, and a selection of related films, among them Olivier Assayas's documentary HHH: A Portrait of Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang's seminal Taipei Story (starring, and co-written by, Hou), and Wu Nien-jen's rarely shown A Borrowed Life.

Patrick Lung Kong will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from Tsui Hark to open this nine-film series, with rare titles screened for the first time in New York. Drawing from a rich legacy of Cantonese films, while promoting a strong sense of singularity through his formal inventiveness, director Patrick Lung Kong (b. 1935) had a profound impact on following generations of filmmakers, including John Woo and Tsui Hark, and remains widely acknowledged as one of the great pioneers of Hong Kong cinema. To pay tribute to the achievements of this prodigious filmmaker, Museum of the Moving Image will present Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: The Cinema of Patrick Lung Kong, a nine-film screening series featuring rare titles imported from Hong Kong, from August 15 through 24, 2014. The series is sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic Trade Office New York and presented with support from the New York Asian Film Festival/Subway Cinema.

The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera (Verismo Opera) pays tribute in its 24th season to the Year of Italian Culture in the United States with the double bill of Giacomo Puccini's sentimental tragedy Suor Angelica (Sister Angelica) and Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana (Rustic Chivalry). Taiwanese-based independent record label Wind Music has released the new album Elegant Pipa Classics, featuring internationally renowned pipa player, Wu Man. The album, which is available on iTunes and the website CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com/cd/wuman), is comprised of a total of six tracks each featuring both ancient traditional Eastern tunes and modern works inspired by those ancient melodies. Joining Wu Man on the album are Taiwanese instrumentalists Li Kong-yuan on guqin, Huang Jheng-ming on erhu, and Xu Man-xuan on guzheng.

BroadwayWorld.com has just learned the sad news that Kevin Gray, who most recently was seen in New York at the 25th Anniversary Gala for The Phantom of the Opera, passed away suddenly of a heart attack last night at the young age of 55. Gray leaves behind his wife, Dodie Pettit, who he met while starring in Broadway's Phantom.

Page 73 Productions will present a reading of the new hip hop musical comedy DUNKFEST '88 with book, beats, and rhymes by Matt Schatz and directed by Wendy C. Goldberg. The reading will be Tuesday, December 11 at 7:30pm at 311 West 43rd Street, 8th floor (MTC's Creative Center). The reading is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Michael Weston joins Center Theatre Group's production of the Tony-nominated "Other Desert Cities" by Jon Robin Baitz. Weston joins the previously announced Jeannie Berlin, Robert Foxworth, Robin Weigert and JoBeth Williams. Robert Egan directs the West Coast premiere, which starts previews tonight November 28, 2012, opens December 9 and runs through January 6, 2013.
