Christopher Titus jokes about things most comics would find impossible to make funny. Custody battles, insanity, family suicides, heart attacks, and fist fighting his father are all topics to be confronted, not hidden from.

When my friend Erin asked me to check out GUSTAFER YELLOWGOLD'S INFINITY SOCK with my four and seven-year-old daughters and then write about my experience, I was both excited and nervous. I was excited because my always 'on the go' family is constantly looking for new things to do and see around the city, but I had some apprehension about the 'job' part of this. You see, ever since becoming a mom, I have involuntarily started taking naps when at shows. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that I never have a stretch during the day without hearing whining and ‘mommy' every other minute? I agreed to take on the challenge, and hoped for an engaging, upbeat show that would
help me stay awake and interested.

New Village Arts has built quite a reputation for its productions of the work of one of America's greatest dramatists, Sam Shepard. To celebrate Season 10, NVA presents a Shepard favorite. SIMPATICO blends all of Shepard's trademarks with an unbelievable sense of humor in a film-noir style. The plot deals with a horse-racing scheme run amuck and follows two former best friends through blackmail, intrigue, betrayal and redemption and includes bourbon, Buicks and a Kentucky Derby dress. Equity actor Mike Sears (Carter) and NVA Ensemble Member Manny Fernandes (Vinnie) bring the two friends to life and are joined by NVA Ensemble Member Jack Missett (Simms), Kelly Iversen (Kelly), Terri Park (Rosie) and Kim Strassburger (Cecilia). Watch unbelievable actors tackle extreme situations under the direction of award-winning director and NVA Ensemble Member Lisa Berger, known for her ability to take edgy stories and tell them with compassion, humanity and humor. SIMPATICO will be playing at New Village Arts Theatre (2787 State Street, Carlsbad Village) from March 2 - 27, 2011. The official opening night is March 5 at 8 PM. Tickets can be purchased at www.NewVillageArts.org or by calling 760-433-3245.

Today, we are talking to the versatile and multi-talented Tony-winning actor who has recently found television superstardom following his turn as the Russell Edgington, King of the Tennessee Vampires, on HBO's hit series TRUE BLOOD, but he has also proven himself to be equally at home on the big screen - as can be clearly seen in his impressive turns in 21 GRAMS, GARDEN STATE, CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR, MILK and more. Discussing his penchant for the dark side as well as his musical comedy side - such as his unforgettable performance in Joe Mantello's ASSASSINS and opposite Christina Applegate in the recent revival of SWEET CHARITY - Denis O'Hare makes clear his adoration for the theatrical form and his undying - make that undead - devotion to his craft. This extensive chat certainly gives us a lot of grist and meat to chew on. Be sure to catch O'Hare eight times a week on Broadway in ELLING, which opens today.
