And let's hope viewers were prepared for a whole lot of twang, because tonight's season ten finale of the show was nothing if not a little bit country.

After 9 surprisingly entertaining Carole King-inspired performances the top 6 contestants who we've come to know and love, became the top 5 on tonight's elimination show. But who would be the next victim? Ryan started out the night by stating that MANY would be disappointed by tonight's outcome and I had tragic flashbacks of the Pia-elimination that shocked the country. Please don't let it be James!
Over the years, Rene Dunshee Copeland, Pam Atha and Martha Wilkinson have collaborated numerous times on all sorts of musicals - and among them, they have garnered the lion's share of First Night Awards presented for achievement in musical theater in Nashville - and so it's pretty damn exciting for the three of them (along with musical director Paul Carrol Binkley) to be on-board for Tennessee Repertory Theatre's Pump Boys and Dinettes, which brings the company's 2010-11 season to a riotous, rip-roaring close!
In the epic event that was last week's ‘American Idol' results show, the judges chose to use the one ‘save' of the season to hang on to Casey Abrams for another week - and rightfully so. The consequence of that decision however, is that two contestants will get the boot this week in what is sure to be a painful elimination.
Critically-acclaimed Sacramento songstress Sea of Bees (AKA Julie Ann Baenziger), whose debut album 'Songs for the Ravens' made NPR's Top 10 Albums of 2010 list, will perform at Spike Hill on Friday, April 22nd at 11:00 PM. LA Weekly describes 'Songs for Ravens' as 'folky in some places, gauzy and ambient in others and ... beautiful throughout, and a potent reminder that emotional virtue is an artist's most precious commodity.' The Guardian sums up the singer-songwriter's performance style: 'Armed with only a guitar and a backing singer but able to conjure instantly memorable tunes from an echoey twang and a couple of chords, watching the denim-jacketed, bowl-haired performer is like riding an emotional rollercoaster.' Jump on the ride when it stops at Spike Hill on Earth Day. Admission is free.
Aurora Theatre Funny Fridays continues club comedy performances on the square in downtown Lawrenceville with two huge shows this March. First, on March 11, Headliner Big Kenny will take the Funny Fridays Stage.
In yet another season 10 twist from American Idol, tonight's top 13 performances were pre-taped...again. A FOX rep told People magazine, 'We have pre-taped shows at this stage of the competition before ... although it's rare.' Why the hold up, you ask? This being only the second time in Idol history that there are 13 finalists instead of 12, producers wanted to make sure all of the performance fit into the 2 hour time slot.
Smuin Ballet presents the riveting Oh, Inverted World by acclaimed choreographer Trey McIntyre set to music by the popular indie-rock band The Shins in Walnut Creek (Feb 4-5), Carmel (Feb 18-19), and Mountain View (Feb 23-27).. This dynamic ballet the New York Times called 'striking' and 'remarkable' made its world premiere in San Francisco last October. The program will also include Bluegrass/ Slyde by Michael Smuin, an electric piece called 'riotous' by the SF Examiner and featuring the bluegrass twang of renowned banjoist Béla Fleck and master bassist Edgar Meyer. Rounding out the program is Smuin's classic ballet Brahms-Haydn Variations, a lyrical favorite filled with courtly references, called 'lovely' by the San Francisco Chronicle and 'impressive' by the New York Times. Single tickets ($49-$62) are available through their prospective theatres or by visiting www.smuinballet.org.

Week three of the revamped American Idol kicked off in Austin tonight, and with this third trip to the Lone Star state marks the midpoint of the initial audition round. That's right, in just two weeks, on February 16, the golden ticket holders will begin the annual Hollywood showdown. Until then, we'll have to stay content with the 7500 auditionees that Texas had to offer tonight.
Week two of American Idol auditions has come to a close, and in tonight's episode Randy, JLo, and Mr. Tyler left Wisconsin and headed for the country music capital of the world- Nashville. In this second trip to Music City in the past ten seasons, the judges set up headquarters at the iconic Ryman Auditorium of Grand Ole Opry fame and were soon met by 17,000 Idol hopefuls. But would any of the 17,000 prove as promising as Nashville native and country music superstar Carrie Underwood? Hmmmm, maybe a few.
Week two of American Idol auditions have officially begun, and with episode three of America's favorite reality series came a trip to the Midwest! In tonight's two hour episode, Randy Jackson and Idol's two still fresh-faced judges, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler took a trip to Milwaukee to seek out Wisconsin's biggest and brightest stars.
'9 to 5' is a campy evening of harmless fun and 15 original toe-tapping ditties supplied by Miss Parton herself. It's nowhere near a perfect show, but for a strong dose of women power, this tour is a sure bet.
Last night's season ten premiere of American Idol dominated primetime television as only American Idol can. But will 2011 treat the series as well as the last seven years have? Can the show maintain its appeal sans Simon Cowell? Well, if last night's ratings are any indication, yes and no. While Idol ratings surpassed all other major networks combined ( including Idol alum Paula Abdul's Live to Dance), last night's 26.2 million viewers were down 17 percent from last year's almost 30 million. So Idol still achieved outstanding numbers, but they didn't quite hold up to those of past seasons.
The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center's already looking to spring as tickets to the 2011 Boldt Arts Alive! Series performances go on sale Monday, December 13, 2010
