Cincinnati Shakespeare Company officially opens their 2015-2016 mainstage season with the epic, dazzling, romantic comedy "Cyrano de Bergerac" based on the translation written by Anthony Burgess of the play written by Edmond Rostand playing September 11- October 3, 2015.  This production is directed by CSC Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips and features Cincinnati Shakespeare Resident Ensemble members Jeremy Dubin and Caitlin McWethy. The costume design for "Cyrano de Bergerac" is generously sponsored by 1919 Investment Counsel and Frost Brown Todd.

One of the capital's most beloved annual traditions, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) Free For All, and one of William Shakespeare's most beloved plays, A Midsummer Night's Dream, are coming together for a major milestone: Free For All's 25th anniversary. Ethan McSweeny directs a revival of his 2012-2013 STC production, which will run September 1-13 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW).

BroadwayWorld has just learned Waitress, a new musical, will open on Broadway as part of the current 2015-2016 season.  The production will open in April 2016, with previews beginning in March 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue).  Waitress is currently playing at the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, where it runs through September 27, 2015.

Shakespeare was a clear favorite this year at the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Among the award-winning productions was Ryan J. Smith's LOVE LABOURS WON, which received two fringe awards: The International Award and an Encore Producers' Award. Back by popular demand, the show has extended through August 6th and will play Thursday nights at 8pm in the Dorie Theatre. Is it a sequel to Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost like the title might imply? I asked Ryan to tell us about the play, which sounds delightful.

Ludwigsen. When  5:00 p.m arrives, Shakespeare's The Tempest opens and begins high atop a balcony surrounding an age old tree with a trunk too immense to imagine, designed by Aaron Kopec This lofty perch transforms into the railings of a ship's deck-- the ship destroyed in the fierce storm Prospero conjures with his magic to send his enemies onto his island and into his power.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Shakespeare in Love, staged to great acclaim in the West End, will have its North American premiere as a part of the 2016 season at the Stratford Festival, directed by Declan Donnellan. Based on the screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard, the play is adapted for the stage by Lee Hall and will be presented by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Group and Sonia Friedman Productions.
