Taproot Theatre Extends SMOKE ON THE MOUNTIAN HOMECOMING Through 8/22

Taproot Theatre Company has extended the run of the hit Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming through August 22, giving people two more weeks to experience this toe-tappin', knee-slappin', heartwarmin' bluegrass gospel extravaganza. The regional premiere of this musical has been delighting audiences since it opened on July 10.

Taproot Theatre is bringing Late-Night Improv back to the Mainstage this summer for three hilarious evenings of fun. Following the performances of Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming on July 24 and 31 and August 7, Taproot's improvisers will take the stage to entertain audiences with their imaginative sketches based on audience suggestions. Performances start at 10:15 p.m., or shortly after the Mainstage performance ends.

Theatre, film, television and music star Michael McKean will reprise his role as donut shop owner Arthur Przybyszewski in the Broadway premiere of Steppenwolf Theatre Company?s new American play Superior Donuts, by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning ensemble member Tracy Letts, directed by ensemble member Tina Landau. Mr. McKean originated the role during Superior Donuts? sold-out, world premiere at Steppenwolf last summer. Full casting will be announced shortly.

Taproot Theatre Company Celebrated 33 Years With its Annual Gala, Raised $84,000

Taproot Theatre Company celebrated 33 years of bringing theatre to the Seattle region and beyond with its annual gala at The Triple Door on April 18. Taproot Theatre brought in a net of approximately $84,000 in gifts and pledges at Light Up the Night. Although the gala?s income was slightly below 2008?s, the total number of donors and the number of gifts from new donors set a record. The event was completely underwritten, with no out-of-pocket expenses to Taproot Theatre, all the seats were full and Taproot now has over 30 new donors.

The Public Theater announced initial casting today for the Shakespeare in the Park production of TWELFTH NIGHT, directed by Daniel Sullivan and featuring the previously announced Anne Hathaway as Viola. TWELFTH NIGHT will run June 10-July 12 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park with an official press opening on Thursday, June 25 at 8 p.m. Bank of America will return as lead sponsor of Shakespeare in the Park 2009.

The producers of the smash hit musical WICKED announced today that Academy Award-winning actress Patty Duke will play the role of ?Madame Morrible' beginning March 24th. Carol Kane, who currently stars as ?Madame Morrible', had always been scheduled for a limited engagement of the opening eight weeks of WICKED's return home to San Francisco. She will give her final performance at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco on Mach 22nd. In addition to the new casting in March, a new block of tickets will be made available beginning March 15th for the open-ended engagement of WICKED.
