BWW Interview: Pedro Ka'awaoa of THE KING AND I at Times Union Performing Arts Center

Pedro Ka'awaoa is honored to be bringing King Mongkut to life in The King and I's national tour. He has a BA in Music from Harvard University. Regional: The Fantasticks, South Pacific, Evita, The Addams Family, The Producers, Jesus Christ Superstar, White Christmas, The Odd Couple Female Version. MDConductor: Cabaret, First Date, Seussical, Putnam Spelling Bee, The King and I, Les Miserables School Edition. Pedro is also a choir conductor, pianist, musician, teacher, and composer. He is also a fitness and mindfulness enthusiast. Aloha and IMUA!  Ka'awaoa spent some time talking with BroadwayWorld to discuss his road to The King and I and their upcoming journey to Jacksonville.

The campaign is born from the Company's focus on developing civic practices as part of a strategic framework to guide the organization into its centennial 2022-23 Season and beyond. San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock today announced plans for the 2018 19 Season. The Company's 96th Season will open Friday, September 7 with a gala double-bill performance of Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci in Jos Cura's production with an international cast featuring Lianna Haroutounian, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Roberto Aronica, Marco Berti and Dimitri Platanias, conducted by Daniele Callegari. To usher in the new opera season, San Francisco Opera Guild will produce its signature benefit event, Opera Ball 2018.

Adapter Joe Landry has brought the 1946 film to the stage where he has gathered a troupe of radio actors and live Foley sound artists to perform It's a Wonderful Life in a 1940s radio station. Performances begin on November 30. Patrons can purchase tickets at The F.M. Leonard Bernstein was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He took piano lessons as a boy and attended the Garrison and Boston Latin Schools. At Harvard University, he studied with Walter Piston, Edward Burlingame-Hill, and A. Tillman Merritt, among others. Before graduating in 1939, he made an unofficial conducting debut with his own incidental music to 'The Birds,' and directed and performed in Marc Blitzstein's 'The Cradle Will Rock.' Then at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he studied piano with Isabella Vengerova, conducting with Fritz Reiner, and orchestration with Randall Thompson.

It's Christmas in August. Houston Grand Opera's (HGO) world premiere of composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer's opera It's a Wonderful Life is now available for audio streaming, high resolution download, and CD pre-orders on the PENTATONE website. The CD will be released worldwide on September 1. It's a Wonderful Life is the newest addition to PENTATONE's American Opera Series.
