On New Year's Eve, an over-worked and under-inspired single guy who's had enough of holiday cheer makes a resolution: to stay home and go to bed early. But his reclusive evening is interrupted by an eccentric young woman selling special "full-spectrum holiday light bulbs" to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder. Though her intervention and Hans Christian Andersen's story of The Little Match Girl, our protagonist finally begins to pull out of his funk.

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for George Bernard Shaw's Arms and the Man, joining celebrated director Jessica Stone, who recently made her Globe debut with Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Shaw's romantic comedy, which continues the Globe's 80th Anniversary festivities as part of the Balboa Park Centennial Celebration, will run May 9 - June 14, 2015 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run May 9 through 13. Opening night is Thursday, May 14 at 8:00 p.m.

Widely admired for his innovative projects, composer/maker/visual artist Tristan Perich is pleased to announce the launch of Compositions, a series of four creatively packaged recordings coming out this year on his imprint, Physical Editions. Each Compositions release spotlights a single work by Perich for acoustic instruments plus 1-bit electronics. The first is Parallels (50', 2013), performed by the Meehan/ Perkins Duo and released today, March 24. Further releases in the series include Telescope (May), Dual Synthesis (August), and Active Field with Ensemble Signal (November); details appear below.

From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.
