Two Destination Language Brings NEAR GONE to Edinburgh Fringe, Now thru Aug 23

By:
Two Destination Language/Escalator East to Edinburgh present Near Gone. One bare stage, 2 performers, hundreds of fresh carnations, one heartfelt story about survival at Edinburgh Fringe 2014.

Delivered in English and Bulgarian, with fantastic gypsy-inspired music, Near Gone fills an empty space with two performers and 400 fresh flowers. It transforms the audience too, their sense of what it is to be a mother, a father, a child. And Two Destination Language hope they'll leave more fully alive than ever.

The two performers have a difficult story to tell. They come on stage, launching themselves into an hour-long attempt to put into words the utterly unspeakable. The duo tell a true story about a young girl's brush with death, which gradually reveals their own relationship. Their efforts to explain are interspersed with furious dances to pounding Eastern European gypsy music, only the resulting exhaustion lets them reach their end.

In 2013 Near Gone won the inaugural Pulse Fringe Suitcase Prize.

For Near Gone the company collaborated with renowned choreographer Charlotte Vincent, who was dramaturg and provided additional direction. Tim Blazdell from the National Theatre worked on sound design. The creation of Near Gone was supported by a residency in The Creation Space at The Point Eastleigh where Two Destination Language are Supported Artists.

Two Destination Language is the collaborative performance practice of Alister Lownie and Katherina Radeva. Their work is percolated by ideas of community, identity and memory and interests in boundaries and otherness, belonging and personal history fuelled by the contrasts between Alister's Scottish heritage and Katherina's Bulgarian background.

Near Gone has been selected for Escalator East To Edinburgh. Each year Escalator East to Edinburgh helps artists and arts organisations to raise their profile and perform to new audiences as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
