EDINBURGH 2015 - BWW Reviews: ED BYRNE, Gilded Balloon, August 23 2015
After having seen Outside Looking In, Ed Byrne's 2015 Edinburgh Fringe show, I was a little stumped when it came to writing my review. I enjoyed the show, I laughed from start to finish. However, I couldn't really tell you what it was "about".
While I'm all for a show that centres around a series of quick gags, I'm used to there being a general theme that links all of these together. Re-reading the blurb for this show when I got home confirms my suspicions that there isn't actually any kind of theme for Outside Looking In.
Ed Byrne is a hugely likeable guy who doesn't resort to cheap laughs or offensive humour. He offers some commentary on Edinburgh goings on that are easy for the crowd to relate to and prompts a lot of laughs. Although there isn't a plan as such, this set has been carefully scripted and flows really well. The audience were laughing throughout and although there is nothing too memorable, it makes for a nice way to spend an evening.
