DAVID MCIVER IS A NICE LITTLE MAN Comes to Opium
Highly inventive stand-up and character comedian David McIver (as heard on BBC Radio 4 Extra and seen on BBC Three) will perform his debut hour David McIver is a Nice Little Man at Opium as part of PBH's Free Fringe at 2:30pm, 4st-25th August (except 14th).
David McIver is a Nice Little Man is an absurd character comedy show about masculinity, shyness and bravery, brimming with whimsical personas, physical comedy and audience interaction. Set at a dark and disturbing 18th birthday party, David performs characters including Andrew Shyman (a shy man), Taz (the masculinity guru) and Sergeant Gunsandbombs (the stand-in army sergeant). Borrowing from the worlds of stand-up and clowning, David explores how the difficulties he has expressing himself as a small, shy man are linked to his insecurities about his own masculinity.
David McIver has studied clowning at the prestigious École Philippe Gaulier and hosts the popular London alternative comedy night Oh Boy, Comedy! His stand-up has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra, he has written and performed in brand new BBC Radio 1 sketch show The Andy Field Experience (June 2018), online content for BBC Three and appeared on Sky Sunrise, representing young performers at the Edinburgh Fringe. His writing credits also include BBC Radio 4 Extra's Newsjack and The Show What You Wrote.
Last year, David McIver was selected for the BBC New Comedy Award 2017 and his 45-minute show David McIver: Stop It, David, We Are Having Too Much Fun was performed to packed rooms in Brighton and Edinburgh where it received rave reviews.
