The Gainesville Community Playhouse (GCP) proudly presents Thornton Wilder’s Our Town—the Pulitzer Prize-winning American masterpiece that strips away everything but the essential truth to explore the profound beauty of ordinary life and the heartbreak of taking it for granted.
GCP's production honors the playwright’s groundbreaking, minimalist intent. Set in the fictional, turn-of-the-century town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, the play follows the interconnected lives of the Gibbs and Webb families across three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity”. Since its 1938 premiere and subsequent Pulitzer win, Our Town has maintained an unmatched legacy. It remains one of the most-produced plays in American theatre, and its enduring power was recently affirmed by a Broadway revival as recently as 2024. All performances take place at Gainesville Community Playhouse, 4039 NW 16th Blvd, Gainesville, FL 32605. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 PM (seating at 7:00 PM). Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 PM (seating at 1:30 PM). Our Town runs approximately two hours with one intermission after Act One.
