Sarasota Opera House Marks 100 Years with Concert, Gala & Film Screening
Centennial Concert, gala dinner, and free film screening set for this month.
Sarasota Opera will mark the 100th anniversary of the Sarasota Opera House with a weekend of events on April 11 and 12, including a concert, a dinner celebration, and a free film screening. The historic venue, located at 61 North Pineapple Avenue, has served as a performance space since the 1920s.
CENTENNIAL CONCERT
April 11 at 1:30 p.m.
The weekend will begin with a Centennial Concert at the Sarasota Opera House, featuring company artists Virginia Mims, Lisa Chavez, Rafael Dávila, and Jake Stamatis. The Sarasota Orchestra will perform under the direction of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Victor DeRenzi.
The program will also include guest performances by West Coast Black Theatre Troupe, the Circus Arts Conservatory, and the Sarasota Ballet.
CENTENNIAL DINNER CELEBRATION
April 11 at 4:30 p.m.
A concert and dinner package will be available, with a post-concert event at Selby Gardens. The evening will begin with cocktails at Michael’s on the Bay, followed by dinner. Limited tickets remain for this package.
FREE COMMUNITY FILM SCREENING
April 12 at 12:30 p.m.
The weekend will conclude with a free screening of THE SARASOTA OPERA HOUSE: A CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION, a documentary tracing the venue’s history from its origins as a vaudeville and movie palace to its current role as an opera house.
The screening will be preceded by remarks from Marty Hylton, president of Architecture Sarasota. The event is free and open to the public, with advance registration encouraged.

Founded in 1960, Sarasota Opera is now in its 67th season. The company moved into the Sarasota Opera House in 1984 following its earlier years at the Asolo Theater. The organization is known for initiatives including the Verdi Cycle and its Sarasota Youth Opera program.
