Write Out Loud - an organization founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading short stories aloud for a live audience - announces VOICES OF CHRISTMAS the third production in their 10th Anniversary Season.

Write Out Loud Story Concerts bring literature to life - aloud - with rehearsed readings by professional actors. Each program explores specific themes by weaving a variety of stories, poems and music together into a literary tapestry. Mark Christopher Lawrence (of TV's Chuck fame), Steven J. Warner, Veronica Murphy, Walter Ritter and other favorite Write out Loud artists to perform. A pre-show reception starts at 6:15pm with a 7:00pm curtain.

Write Out Loud Artistic Director, Veronica Murphy shares, "With VOICES OF CHRISTMAS, we are excited to step away from the commercialism of the holidays, and focus on the heart of the season. The stories focus on finding the joy of personal relationships and giving whatever you have to give while navigating tradition and our human frailties. Along with these character driven holiday stories and poems, we are thrilled to include the beautiful and haunting holiday music of Ireland by The Celtic Echoes."

VOICES OF CHRISTMAS - Stories of the Heart of the Season

A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote - read by Steven J. Warner

Capote's largely autobiographical story is shared from the perspective of 7 year old Buddy. Sent to the South during the depression to live with aging cousins, Buddy forges unexpected new relationships which are threatened by forces beyond his control. Capote draws a portrait of country life, friendship and the joy of giving during Christmas.

Ten Pecan Pies by Clarence Major - read by Mark Christopher Lawrence

Thursday Flower is raising her grandchildren with a lot of love...and very little else. She wants nothing more than to bake 10 pecan pies with her grandchildren to share with others for the holidays. Only one thing stands in her way. Grady Flower, her curmudgeonly, reclusive husband. Those pecans for the proposed Christmas pies are HIS. And he has no desire to share. Marital negotiation and family collaboration weave their way through the ultimate journey of the coveted bag of pecans.

Rumpole and Father Christmas by John Mortimer - read by the company.

Dressing as Father Christmas for a holiday event for children. Sounds good on paper...until Santa explores the potential of using his cover to steal. The spirit of Christmas pays him a visit...and the unlikely holiday story unfolds.

Christmas Bells by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

How does one view the traditions and comforts of the holidays through the filter of loss? Longfellow's famed poem explores personal loss and the ultimate hope and redemption of the holiday season.

Tickets for VOICES OF CHRISTMAS are $20. There are discounts for seniors, students and military. Purchase tickets for the Monday, December 12th performance at www.writeoutloudsd.com.

In addition to their six show season of Story Concerts, Write Out Loud provides the community five other core programs serving over 16,000 people annually. Additional programs include TwainFest - a free family celebration in August in Old Town, Stories for Seniors, StoryBox Theatre for elementary students, Read Imagine Create for teens and Poetry Out Loud for high school students.
