BWW Reviews: TOMMY is Packed with Rocking Vocals
by Jeff Davis - August 07, 2014
Excuse me if I'm suffering from a case of deja vu. Last year, theatergoers in Central Texas got to see Austin's Zach Theatre and San Antonio's Playhouse duke it out with competing productions of Les Miserables. I was fortunate enough to see both productions, and in the battle of the barricades, I declared a draw. Naturally, Zach and The Playhouse's current production of The Who's Tommy feels like a rematch. So which has the pinball wizard winner? The answer is: both. While Zach's production is a feast for the senses, The Playhouse's production places its focus squarely on its awe-inspiring cast.

San Antonio College Presents ANTIGONE as Part of Summer Rep, 7/14-17
by BWW News Desk - June 30, 2014
SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE is proud to announce its next production: a visceral and physical adaptation of Sophocles' legendary tragedy ANTIGONE. Unlike many presentations of this ancient text, however, director Joseph Urick has chosen to present the style in its simplest and purest form: using the art of mask and voice. "There is no set, no projections, no gimmicks, or special effects," states Urick, "only the actors and their voices, performing a piece that serves more as a ritual for one of the pantheon of gods and goddesses of ancient Greece." When asked what a modern audience could expect from the piece, Urick said, "expect to experience something much different than what we accept as a conventional theatrical experience."
BWW Blog:Alex Urdiales SISTER ACT Top Notch
by Guest Blogger: Alex Urdiales - June 30, 2014
Oh SISTER ACT you were a lot more fun then I wanted to admit. So I must be honest I've never seen the first SISTER ACT movie but I did watch the 2nd one a ton in grade school it was always something that was put on during movie days. So I walked into the Majestic Theatre where SISTER ACT was playing knowing very little. I knew that the main character, Deloris, beautifully played by Ta'rea Campbell, wants nothing more than to be disco singer looking up to the queen of disco, Donna Summers. But of course, in a very 70's disco matter, she falls in with a nightclub owner/mobster, Curtis, which of course as nightclub owner/mobsters often do, Curtis kills the one of his men labeled a rat and either by destiny or dumb luck or maybe both, Deloris walks out and sees the murder.
BWW Blog: Alex Urdiales - What IF?
by Guest Blogger: Alex Urdiales - June 25, 2014
'What if?' That's a question I often finding myself reflecting upon. There are a ton of times in my life where two roads were open and I could only go down one and I ask, 'What road do I take? And what happens to the roads I didn't take?' Well, I would like to cite as reference, a song from the musical FOLLIES which of course was written by the legend and my personal hero Sondheim called 'The Road You Didn't Take.' At this point in the show an Older Ben is now is reflecting back upon his life is simply wondering The roads I didn't take would they really have changed much?
