MAURITIUS Opens 4/23 at Mendocino Theatre Company
Opening April 23rd, the Mendocino Theatre Company is presents Mauritius, a darkly funny, unusual play about the hidden world of high-end stamp collecting. The play, written by Theresa Rebeck (television's Smash), is directed by accomplished Mendocino Theatre Company director Bob Cohen.
Two estranged half sisters battle over the inheritance of a book of stamps. When the possibility arises that one or more of the stamps could be worth millions, motives are questioned, three darkly enigmatic men get involved, and a savage game of psychological chess ensues, leaving exposed the seedy underworld of stamp collecting.
Described as a mafia story for nerds, this comic carnival of character and suspense is not to be missed. An unusual and brutally funny play, Mauritius will have audiences buzzing all season.
Mauritius features a dynamic cast of both local and new-to-our-stage performers. Laurel Livezey leads the ensemble as Jackie, with Patrick Gomes, Ken Krauss, Mark Marco, and Cynthia Audo completing the cast. This high stakes dramedy features an abstract set, and razor-sharp dialogue.
Mauritius plays at the Mendocino Theatre Company at 45200 Little Lake St. in Mendocino April 23rd through May 31st, Thursdays-Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. on selected Sundays.
