By: Apr. 15, 2011

Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), the not-for-profit producing entity at the historic Theatre By The Sea, is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Evangelista as chairman of the Board of Directors. "I could not be more excited for someone of Stephen's experience to accept this position," says Ocean State Theatre Company President and founding member Amiee Turner.

Mr. Evangelista is the Chief Executive Officer of the Arthritis Foundation's newly formed New England Region. He has been with the Arthritis Foundation since 2001. He was the 2005 recipient of the highly regarded Clifford Clarke Award for Outstanding Leadership.

Mr. Evangelista began his non-profit career in 1970 as the first Executive Director of the Rhode Island Special Olympics. In 1988, he was appointed to lead the Dole Foundation for the Employment of People with Disabilities in Washington, DC. In the early nineties, Mr. Evangelista assumed the role of Deputy Chair for Boy's Town New England, where he was instrumental in raising $20 million to build the Boy's Town New England Campus in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. In 1994, he was appointed to President/CEO of the National Kidney Foundation for Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Mr. Evangelista received his BA from Roger Williams University and his MBA from Rhode Island College. He and his wife Arlene reside in Warwick, RI. They have four grown children and six grandchildren.

"It is with great excitement that I accept the position as the first chair of Ocean State Theatre Company. The theatre company provides Rhode Islanders and vacationers the opportunity to enjoy first-class theatre in a historic setting," said Mr. Evangelista. "My goal is that the Board will provide and sustain guidance and vision for many years to come."

"In addition to Mr. Evangelista's appointment, OSTC has also added three fantastic new board members this year," Ms. Turner continued. "With the continued support of the community, Theatre By The Sea should have an enduring future." Additional board members include Hollie Lussier, Senior Counsel, RBS Americas, Citizens Financial Group, Anthony Miccolis Advancement Coordinator, Office of Institutional Advancement, Providence College, and Cynthia Warren, attorney and Partner at Cameron & Mittleman, LLP. Continuing board members include Andy Cohen (Treasurer), Christine McLacken (Secretary), Keith Ash, Dick Hanratty, Joel Kipper, Peg Laurence, and Amiee Turner.
