This September, Festival Ballet Providence (FBP) kicks off its 40th Anniversary Season with Pippi. Part of the Company¹s popular chatterBOXtheatre series, the family-friendly ballet is based on Astrid Lindgren's beloved Pippi Longstocking books. Performances take place in FBP's Black Box Theater at 825 Hope Street September 30-October 8, 2017. Choreographed in 1999 by local artist Colleen Cavanaugh, Pippi returns with the story of a strong, steadfast girl and her many adventures.

Cavanaugh, also an obstetrician-gynecologist, brings her own tenacity to the studio as she inspires Tegan Rich and Kailee Felix, who will alternate in title role of Pippi. ³As a young girl I loved the adventure and comedy,² Cavanaugh said, adding, ³and as a professional woman and mother I loved the boldly independent role model Pippi represents for young girls.² Cavanaugh¹s dynamic choreography bounces in and out of the spirited music of W.A. Mozart and Ottorino Respighi.

Pippi excites children and those young-at-heart with spunky attitude, vibrant costuming, and colorful sets. Laugh along with the characters as they spring through Providence, and don¹t forget to stick around to meet the cast and snag some complimentary cookies from chatterBOXtheatre sponsor, Seven Stars Bakery, after the show! Tickets are $15-$25. To reserve call (401) 353-1129 or go online http://festivalballetprovidence.org/2017-2018Season.php#Pippi.
