Amgen Foundation Funds Gamm Theatre Outreach Program

By:

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre, a professional, nonprofit theater company in Pawtucket, RI, has received a grant of $10,000 from the Amgen Foundation, the charitable arm of Amgen Inc. The grant is in support of The Gamm's education outreach program, Pawtucket Literacy and Arts for Youth (PLAY).

Steve Kidd, Education Director for The Gamm Theatre, said, "PLAY employs a performance-based approach to literacy, engaging students in a meaningful, personal connection to the texts they study in the classroom. Through our partnership with the Pawtucket School Department, over the last six years we have served more than 9,000 students. We are grateful to the Amgen Foundation for this grant, which will allow us to keep meeting the growing demand for the program in Pawtucket's schools."

“I am pleased that the Amgen Foundation is providing its support to The Gamm Theatre and its innovative educational programs,” said Tony Pankau, Vice President of Amgen’s Rhode Island Operations. “The Amgen Foundation is a strong proponent of local organizations that strengthen the fabric of the communities where we operate. I commend The Gamm Theatre’s commitment to leveraging its expertise in theatre to help transform a traditional literacy program into one that energizes students and strengthens their desire to learn.”
