The Dead Poets Society soundtrack marked the three-time Academy Award-winner Maurice Jarre's (composer) fourth collaboration with director Peter Weir. The two collaborated on Weir's 'The Mosquito Coast' (1987) as well as 'Witness' (1985) for which he earned an Oscar nomination and a British Academy Award and 'The Year of Living Dangerously' (1983) for which he received the Sydney Critics Award. Jarre took home Oscars for David Lean's 'Lawerence of Arabia' (1962), 'Doctor Zhivago' (1965) and 'Passage to India' (1984). For the Dead Poets Society, Maurice Jarre was faced with perhaps the most difficult challenge... He had to write the final dialogue with his music, to draw together the feelings of those students who stood up for their teacher (Robin Williams). What he came up with was a kind of anthem, a piece of music which not only summarized the feelings in that classroom, but also touched that deep yearning for truth and justice within us all. This soundtrack also features a track from the Witness soundtrack, 'Building the Barn' and four tracks from the 'Year of Living Dangerously' soundtrack. Warner. 2005. Label: Milan Records
