Civic Theatre of Allentown Screens BLUE VALENTINE 2/25

Civic Theatre of Allentown will premiere the Academy Award nominated film "Blue Valentine" Friday, February 25. The film will screen in Civic's Theatre514. "Blue Valentine" is nominated for Best Actress (Michelle Williams) for the 2011 Academy Awards.

Both Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling were nominees at the Golden Globes 2011 for their performances in "Blue Valentine."

Synopsis: David (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams), a couple who have been together for several years, have reached an impasse in their relationship. Cindy has grown into a woman with many opportunities and options, but David is the same person he was when they met.

The movie follows David's inability to accept Cindy's growth and his lack thereof. The story unfolds in two separate time frames, juxtaposing the couple's initial love and sexuality with their eventual disillusionment and discord.

Betsey Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times raves that "Blue Valentine" is, "An intensely intimate rendering of love." Claudia Puig of USA Today praises the actors; "Gosling and Williams have the most palpable chemistry of any screen couple this year, never striking a false note in this achingly tender tale of love that implodes before our eyes."
