Tony Braithwaite Comes To Hedgerow Theatre 2/25-3/14
Tony Braithwaite, called "Hands down, Philadelphia's finest comic actor," by Philadelphia Weekly is coming to Hedgerow Theatre with his one man evening of entertainment. The production Look Mom, I'm Swell! played to sold out audiences at Philadelphia's Arden Theatre. Its special Hedgerow engagement runs Feb. 25-March 14, and Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed couldn't be more delighted.
"When you think of Tony, you smile," said Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed. "He is someone so clever and astoundingly funny. We are very lucky to have him at Hedgerow for this three-week run."
Braithwaite began performing stand-up comedy professionally at age 13 and has since become one of Philadelphia's favorite funnymen. The Philadelphia Inquirer calls Braithwaite "One of the area's best comic actors!" Much more than merely a stand-up comedian, Tony has appeared in a number of productions at the Arden, 1812 Productions and Act II Playhouse. He is an eight-time Barrymore Award nominee, a four-time Barrymore Award M.C., and a two-time winner. For 15 years, Tony has run the theatre program at his beloved alma mater, St. Joe's Prep, where he is currently directing The Drowsy Chaperone.
Look Mom, I'm Swell! isn't just a catchy title; it has real significance for Tony, "My dear mother died in 2005. To mom, life was swell. This show is my life through her eyes." Tony promises that audiences can "expect the unexpected!" Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sundays, Feb. 28, March 7 and 14 at 2 p.m.; March 10 at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $22 on Wednesdays; $25 for all other performances; with $3 discounts for seniors and $10 for age 18 and under.
