Our featured composer this week is Ryan Scott Oliver. Here is his song "Halfway" sung by Morgan Karr (Spring Awakening) and Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hands on a Hardbody) at our Cutting-Edge Composers concert at the Canal Room. We asked Ryan where he got the inspiration for the song and this was his reply:

The Los Angeles based Festival of New American Musicals was formed specifically to cultivate new American musicals and nurture America's musical youth. SHOWSEARCH, the Festival's nation-wide search for the best ten minute musical written by 16-to-25-year-olds crowned its winners March 23rd in Los Angeles at the Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, in cooperation with the LAUSD. Check out the video below!

On Jan. 21, 2013, Larson and Rodgers Award winning composer-lyricist Ryan Scott Oliver returned to Joe's Pub with a collection of work from his musicals Out of My Head (2005), Mrs. Sharp (2007), Darling (2009), 35mm (2010), Jasper in Deadland (2011), The Frog Prince Cont. The debut album from composer Ryan Scott Oliver, 35MM: A Musical Exhibition (Original Cast Recording), will be released digitally on Tuesday, August 14th by Ghostlight Records. The album will be available in stores on Tuesday, September 11th. (Pre-orders for the recording are now being taken at http://sh-k-boom.com/35mm.shtml.) An album release concert is being planned for mid-September, about which additional details will be announced shortly.
