Michael Frayn's 1975 comedy, Alphabetical Order, is the type of play that, either as a compliment or as a dismissal, American audiences are likely to label as 'very British.' Its humor is subtle, its themes are sub-textual and the characters all talk in these funny accents. But even those who appreciate the delicacy of that type of play may find this early work by the versatile writer who went on to pen the riotous Noises Off and the heady Copenhagen a little padded and lacking in both humor and bite. Still, director Carl Forsman and the Keen Theatre Company serve up a lively production that boasts its charms, particularly in the performances of the engaging ensemble.

Hairspray will play the following performance schedule: Wednesdays at 7:00PM, Thursdays at 1:30PM & 7:00PM, Fridays at 7:00PM, Saturdays at 1:30PM & 7:00PM and Sundays at 1:30PM & 7:00PM. Single tickets are now on sale and range in price from $25 to $92. Family week is September 22 through September 26, during which children's tickets are half off. Student rush tickets are $20 and are available the day of performance in person with current student ID. Seattle's Paramount Theatre is currently presenting the US tour of "Xanadu". And let me tell you the show is stupid, ridiculous, pointless, over the top and has no redeeming value what so ever. And boy will you have a good time at it!

With that in mind, the Broadway musical-that uses that vapid movie as its source material-puts that very awfulness center-stage... parodies the heck out of it, points out its cheesiness blatantly, and even surprisingly-and lovingly-pays tribute to it in a very respectful way... Well, at least, respectful in the way the best satires can. XANADU, Broadway's multiple Tony® Award-nominated musical that launched its first national tour at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, is one funny, self-aware, hilarious musical comedy that takes absolute pleasure in its own campy delights. The uproariously bright show skates at the Center (the musical's only Southern California tour stop) until December 27.

A staged reading of This One Girl's Story will be presented on October 28th, 2009 at Middle Collegiate Church in New York City. This new musical, inspired by the life of Sakia Gunn (1988-2003), is described as the story of 'One girl on the way to being a woman ... and her friends... live, laugh, love and remember the time... the one night when they could be exactly who they were... before someone decided they couldn't.' The reading will begin at 7pm.

There are times when I really love being a correspondent for Broadwayworld.com. Certainly, stepping into the historic Lincoln Theatre on U. Street in Washington, DC and watching this feel good award-winning musical entitled Crowns is right at the top of the list.
Crowns is back in town, and with direction and choreography by Kenneth Lee Roberson (Broadway's Avenue Q, Arena's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill) and musical direction by Grammy nominee e'Marcus Harper, this soulful musical will be bigger than ever in the Lincoln Theatre. Arena favorites Marva Hicks (The Women of Brewster Place) and E. Faye Butler (Dinah Was, Ain't Misbehavin') are joined by NaTasha Yvette Williams (Broadway's The Color Purple), Mary Millben, Kara Tameika Watkins, Phillip Boykin and Zurin Villanueva. Howard University student Villanueva was discovered in Arena's January 'Finding Yolanda' one-day casting search, and this production marks her debut professional performance.
