KANE AND HABIL IN THE PIZZA PARLOR Plays La MaMa, Now thru 1/27

With humor and vision, 'Kane and Habil in the Pizza Parlor' (http://kaneandhabil.com) explores the original family sins that are still impacting our civilization. The title characters are the children of Adam and Eve. The play is a comedy, written and directed by Serge Ernandez. The production features an adept cast headed by Obie-winner Sheila Dabney as Eve, who also directs the play's chorus. Ernandez is a veteran of The Living Theatre; Dabney is a senior member of La MaMa's Great Jones Rep. La Mama E.T.C. will present the play's premiere run tonight, January 18 to 27 in its second-floor Club.

Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, the East Coast's largest producer of Asian-American theatre, has announced it's 35th season which will include a newly re-envisioned production of one of their most successful original musicals, a world premiere of a new play, two new productions showcasing the talents of veteran Asian American artists and a developmental reading series of three new plays focusing on multi-cultural themes.

University of Minnesota Premieres HAYY IBN YAQZAN, 3/3-13

The University of Minnesota is presenting the world premiere of the play Journey, a new English translation and adaption of Hayy ibn Yaqzan, considered one of the spiritual and scientific masterpieces of the medieval Islamic world. Written in the 12th century by Ibn Tufayl, an Andalusian Muslim philosopher and physician, it is the story of the parentless boy Hayy, who is raised in the wild by a gazelle. The death of his gazelle mother sends Hayy on a voyage of scientific inquiry and self-discovery.

Conceived, written, and directed by the legendary Ellen Stewart, AESCULAPIUS tells how the son of sun god Apollo and mortal maiden Coronis transcends to his rightful place in the heavens because of his great work in medicine. In honor of Black History Month, La MaMa e.t.c. is proud to present Beatrice Manley's Conjur Woman, a dramatic folk opera chillingly sung by Obie-Winner Sheila Dabney and directed by George Ferencz, a resident director at La MaMa. Original music for Conjur Woman is composed by La MaMa Founder & Artistic Director Ellen Stewart along with Sheila Dabney, Harry Mann, Jasper McGruder and Yukio Tsuji, and is played on a cornucopia of instruments including a harmonica, washboard, jug, acoustic guitar, bass and percussion…think 1800s music of the slave. Performances take place January 31 to February 10, 2008 in a limited engagement at La MaMa's Annex Theater in NYC.

INTAR Theatre Stages Rediscovered Classic 'Night Over Taos'

INTAR Theatre, one of America's longest running Latino theaters producing plays in English, begins its 42nd season with a production of Pulitzer Prize-winner Maxwell Anderson's Night Over Taos, directed by Academy Award-winning actress and director Estelle Parsons. This rediscovered classic will play a limited Off-Broadway run from September 20 through October 20 at Theater for the New City. The official opening is set for Monday, October 1 at 7PM.
