Deadline.com reports that the 2011 Academy Awards®, already moved up from March to February, may be moved up even further: to January. Last night, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences discussed the possible decision, one that would cause the Oscars® to precede the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and BAFTA Awards ceremonies.

Offering up greater variety, including more than 50 debuts from Sting to Wagnerian tenor John Treleaven, Ravinia Festival Chairperson Pamela B. Strobel and President and CEO Welz Kauffman today announced details of the 2010 season, including a Chicago Symphony Orchestra residency that celebrates major anniversaries of Mahler, Chopin, Schumann, Barber, Bernstein and Copland, as well as milestone birthdays of Music Director James Conlon, Christoph Eschenbach and Stephen Sondheim. The season, featuring 117 separate events, runs from June 3 through September 7.

Yesterday June 2, the 2010 World Science Festival Opening Night Gala took place at the Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City. The event united singers, dancers, actors, and scientists on stage in a salute to the world of science. The night was specifically honoring physicist Stephen Hawking for his achievements in the scientific field. Current cast members of SOUTH PACIFIC, Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara, cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, and John Lithgow are among the performers scheduled for the lineup at The World Science Festival's opening night-gala, June 2 at Alice Tully Hall. The opening-night celebration will feature the cast of Broadway's SOUTH PACIFIC singing 'Derivative Song' and 'Galaxy Song'. Kelli O'Hara, who originated the role of Nelli Forbush in the SOUTH PACIFIC revival, will perform 'Stardust'. Finally, in the second half of the gala, David Henry Hwang will present his world premiere play, based on a children's book written by Brian Green. Tony Award winner John Lithgow will narrate.

The banjo-driven folk rock band will play New York City's Shambhala Center on May 15th; Somerville, MA's Johnny D's on May 20th; New York City's Bryant Park on May 26th (as part of the Bryant Park After Work series); Stroudsburg, PA's Sherman Theater (opening for Donna the Buffalo) on May 28th; and Cooperstown, NY's Memorial Day Festival at the Ommegang Brewery on May 29th.

Seattle Theatre Group (STG) presents the third annual collaboration of Mark Morris Dance Group with Seattle Symphony on May 21-23 at The Paramount Theatre. This year's engagement includes Seattle Symphony performing Haydn's Horn Concerto No. 2 in D major, A Lake; Bach's Jesu, Meine Freude; and Vivaldi's Gloria. The Tudor Choir will join Seattle Symphony for the Bach and Vivaldi pieces, and Gloria will feature special guest conductor, Seattle-native Mark Morris.
