Simon Rattle to Make Conducting Debut at the Met, 12/17

Simon Rattle, Artistic Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, will make his Metropolitan Opera debut December 17 leading a revival of Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. The cast will feature Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená as Mélisande and French baritone Stéphane Degout as Pelléas. Gerald Finley will sing the role of Pelléas's jealous brother Golaud, Felicity Palmer will sing the role of his mother Geneviève, and Willard White will complete the cast as the aged monarch Arkel. All five singers are making their Met role debuts.

Esa-Pekka Salonen, the longest-serving Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall in his new post, Conductor Laureate, leading the orchestra in two programs, Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, November 21, at 2 p.m., as well as Friday and Saturday, November 26 and 27, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, November 28, at 2 p.m.

Los Angeles Philharmonic Announces 2010-11 Season

Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and President and CEO Deborah Borda today announced the 2010/11 season of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Dudamel and the LA Phil move into the second season of their partnership, one which allows for a greatly expanded presence for Dudamel in Los Angeles.
The Met Expands Its Repertory In The 2009-10 Season

Eight new productions, four of which are company premieres, will highlight the Metropolitan Opera's 2009-10 season. General Manager Peter Gelb and Music Director James Levine jointly announced plans that include: the Met premieres of Rossini's Armida, Verdi's Attila, Jan?ček's From the House of the Dead, and Shostakovich's The Nose; new productions of Bizet's Carmen, Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Thomas's Hamlet, and Puccini's Tosca; and 18 revivals from the company's repertory. The season is the first to be entirely planned under Gelb's leadership, in collaboration with Levine (the past three seasons were planned before Gelb became General Manager in 2006-07 but included some productions, repertoire, and casting changes made by Gelb).

Daniel Evans who recently starred in the Broadway production of Sunday In The Park With George, will be re-uniting with Oliver Award Winner Maria Friedman in Swell Party. Swell Party is a concert celebrating the life of musician Cole Porter at London's Cadogan Hall. The concert will run for four nights only, August 6th-9th 2008.
