Did somebody decide when I wasn't listening that this would be the season where all translations of classic plays must contain occasional forays into anachronistic contemporary language? First came An Enemy of the People and Cyrano de Bergerac, and now Carol Rocamora's adaptation of Chekhov's Ivanov, being used in CSC's schizophrenically handsome/punkish production, would have us believing the playwright had his characters uttering the 19th Century Russian equivalents of “harangue,” “He's a real operator” and “Hope you choke.”
On December 3 and 4, La MaMa will hold a two-day series of conversations, workshops and panels to accompany the two productions of its European Young Directors' Forum. Participants will include European directors Bojan Djordjev (Serbia/Croatia), Paul Knieriem (The Netherlands), Bastian Kraft (Germany), Ana Tomovic (Serbia) and U.S. based directors Anne Bogart, Meiyin Wang, John Jesurun and Charlotte Braithwaite.

The Northern Stage Company of White River Junction, Vermont announced today that the Board of Directors and Founding Artistic Director Brooke Ciardelli have agreed that the current production will be her last with the company. Ms. Ciardelli has led the artistic team at Northern Stage since its formation in 1997, guiding it through 16 seasons of critically acclaimed professional theater. She has served in many capacities for the Company including Artistic Director since its inception, director of more than 50 percent of the main stage productions, as well as serving as Managing Director and CEO for many seasons and as a member of the Board of Directors.

Producers of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, which began performances today, September 27, 2012, at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street), have announced that tonight, November 15, they will bring a group of marriage counselors and therapists in to see the production. Following the performance there will be a short talkback with members of the cast, director Pam MacKinnon and Jean Petrucelli, Ph.D., a well-known clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst. Dr. Petrucelli will discuss the many complex issues the play raises about marriage and relationships and why George and Martha, despite being a couple of the early 60s, still resonate with audiences today.
